Information About the Y program

As we look to next year already, the Y, who offer before and after school care, are looking to get the ball rolling.  We are hoping to continue are partnership with the Y as long as there is a need to provide this service. Please also complete the survey in the previous blog. Below are some dates to keep in mind and their registration letter.

Registration dates are as follows:

Current Families will get to re register starting on Feb 8th. Our educators on site will be handing out paperwork and working with the families to ensure they get their spots for next year

New kindergarten registration for YMCA programs will start on March 8th. Parents will need to come into the YMCA to complete registration forms, or locate the forms on our website

New School Age registration opens on April 19th. Again, parents will need to visit the Y or access the website for forms

Accessing Before- and After-Care at Grandview School.

We want to know if you’re interested in accessing Before- and After-School care at our school.  Here’s your chance to tell us if a program would meet the needs of your family.

If enough parents show interest to run a viable program, a third-party provider will coordinate the service at a fee for the 2017-18 school year.

Submit your interest by completing this survey by February 17, 2017.

Results for schools will be available after March 31, 2017.

Congratulations to our colour house winners! For our Teddy Bear over under race, Red came in first place, followed by Green in second. Purple came in third place. Orange took fourth place followed closely by Yellow and then Blue!! It was an intense competition!

Thanks Grandview for showing your school spirit on PJ Day. Orange showed the most school spirit coming in first for number of students wearing pyjamas. Red, Yellow, and Blue tied for second place. Purple takes third again, followed by Green colour house.

Keep you eyes peeled for our next Colour House event!

A Note From The Public Health Nurse

Active Winter Fun for the Whole Family

Winter is here to stay for a while, but there is no need to hibernate indoors.  Instead, go outside with the whole family and enjoy playing old games or trying out some new ones.

Building a snowman, tobogganing, playing a game of hockey, going skating or participating in a winter treasure hunt are all great activities that will get the whole family moving.

Before heading outdoors, keep these tips in mind:

  • Dress warm and layer clothing. Don’t forget a warm hat, mittens and boots!
  • Stay away from ponds and rivers. They may look frozen, but the ice may not be thick enough to support your body weight. Play it safe!
  • Pack a lunch and something to drink. It’s easy to forget that in the cold air you can still get hungry and thirsty.
  • Wear Sunscreen. You can get sunburn even in the winter!
  • Watch for frostbite. Kids get frostbite faster than adults. Signs of frostbite include a prickly or itchy feeling in the skin, numbness and/ or discoloration on the face, ears hands or feet. Stay protected, stay warm.

Primary Skating

There was an error on the skating form.  We will be skating February 2nd at 12:30, not February 3rd.  Please sign the pink slip, coming home in your child’s agenda, and return it to ensure we have your acknowledgement.
